This captivating event will feature poetry readings and discussions with Collingwood Poet Laureate, Jillian Morris, celebrating the release of her new book, born, genes, and quash. Enjoy the beauty of poetry and learn more about her creative process, teachings, and life experiences woven into her poetry collection. Adding to the evening’s atmosphere, J.D. About Jillian Morris
Jillian Morris has served as Collingwood’s Poet Laureate since 2022. A Kanien’kehaka woman and proud member of the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, she is a gifted poet and storyteller. Her work has inspired the Yonnhe’on:we Indigenous Storytelling Series, and her poem A Tribute to our Stolen Spirits is featured at the Awen’ Gathering Circle.
About J.D. Crosstown
International touring artist J.D. (Jacob Douglas) Crosstown, grew up in Neyaashiinigmiing, the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Crosstown describes his own music as traditional folk, country/blues, and says that he, “hopes that his songs give people a place to lean back on too.” Crosstown is a storyteller and captures the poignancy of a time and place, of heartbreak, loss, hope, love, adventure and friendship.
