About the FilmThinking Beyond the Market is a 98-minute documentary by University of Waterloo planning professor Dr. Brian Doucet\, showcasing real-world housing solutions across Canada to address the affordability crisis. The film highlights successful policies\, non-market housing initiatives\, and Indigenous-led projects\, demonstrating alternatives to market-driven development and promoting housing as a human right. It features interviews with a wide range of experts and advocates\, offering a critical look at the root causes of the crisis and inspiring hope for transformative change. Simcoe Street Theatre visitors are encouraged to use street parking or nearby municipal lots (paid and free lots available on Ste. Marie and Simcoe Streets). For accessibility needs\, a temporary drop-off/pickup location is provided at the rear of the building. Look for the blue space before the accessibility ramp entrance off of Ste. Marie Street.
