SUMMARY:The Last Stand
DESCRIPTION:The Last Stand\nThe Last Stand uses the flashpoint of B.C.’s Fairy Creek stand-off to examine the importance of keeping intact forest ecosystems. The film reveals the complexity of issues facing the world: the need to protect habitat\, while balancing economies\, jobs; and also recognizing the rights of First Nations people.  Finally\, The Last Stand looks at solutions…both to technological developments and to things average citizens can do.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaXmyE07xWc \nAll proceeds go to the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust \nThe Blue Mountain Watershed Trust Foundation (the Watershed Trust)\, Ontario’s first watershed trust\, was formed in 1994 to protect natural areas in Collingwood and the Blue Mountains from development pressures of many kinds. SUMMARY:Memorial Tour: Rachael Kilgour & Ian Fisher
DESCRIPTION:Live & Original Presents: Rachael Kilgour & Ian Fisher\nRachael Kilgour and Ian Fisher present a night of songs in memory of their respective parents. With honesty\, tenderness and a touch of humour\, the songwriters each navigate the disorientation that comes with the death of a parent. More than a concert\, their performance is an invitation to find connection and universality in our loneliest moments. \nRachael Kilgour is a Canadian-American songwriter and performing artist whose plain-spoken\, heart-centered work has endeared her to listeners and fellow artists alike. Her new album\, ‘My Father Loved Me’\, was produced by JUNO Award-winning songwriter Rose Cousins and recorded in her late father’s native Ontario home. In the spare\, often gutting language for which she is known\, Kilgour gives us a complex portrait of a man as seen through his daughter’s eyes. With unwavering acuity she poses questions about identity\, inheritance\, and grief\, and affirms the value of one ordinary working man’s life to an often indifferent world. \nIan Fisher left his home state of Missouri when he was twenty one to roam the streets of Europe for fifteen years. His music mixes his rural Midwestern American upbringing with a dark delicacy shaped by his time abroad. Simple\, yet emotionally complex\, he has the acoustic grit of an early Jeff Tweedy with a sentimental pen ready to strike a’la Townes Van Zandt. Fisher has written nearly two thousand songs while touring extensively through Europe\, Africa\, and North America. His many albums have earned him praise in such outlets as Rolling Stone\, who calls his music “Half Americana & Half Abbey Road-Worthy Pop”. \n \n Tickets

SUMMARY:The Magnitude of All Things
DESCRIPTION:The Magnitude of All Things\nWhen Jennifer Abbott lost her sister to cancer\, her sorrow opened her up to the profound gravity of climate breakdown. Abbott’s new documentary The Magnitude of All Things draws intimate parallels between the experiences of grief—both personal and planetary. Stories from the frontlines of climate change merge with recollections from the filmmaker’s childhood on Ontario’s Georgian Bay. What do these stories have in common? The answer\, surprisingly\, is everything. \nFor the people featured\, climate change is not happening in the distant future: it is kicking down the front door. Battles waged\, lamentations of loss\, and raw testimony coalesce into an extraordinary tapestry\, woven together with raw emotion and staggering beauty that transform darkness into light\, grief into action. \n  \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIVYm31gK5A\n \n Tickets

Experienced in an extensive variety of music styles and genres\, Murray is a graduate of Humber College’s music program\, is a member of the faculty at Centennial College and a rising bandleader. Yeh also serves as Concertmaster the Northumberland Orchestra & Choir. As a member of jazz-fusion band Paul DeLong’s ONE WORD\, Yeh presents the violin as it’s rarely seen. \n\nSteve Lucas\nAn international recording and touring bassist\, electronic artist and composer\, Steve Lucas’s cutting edge brand of jazz fusion adds another dimension to any performance. As a bassist he has shared the stage with Bruce Cockburn\, Loreena McKennitt\, Moe Koffman and Levon Helm (to name just a few). As a composer\, Lucas’s work has been featured in numerous shows and television productions including The Daily Show with John Stewart and The Diary of Alicia Keys recording. SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - The Woman Who Loves Giraffes
DESCRIPTION:BTC Film Series Presents: The Woman Who Loves Giraffes\nIn 1956\, four years before Jane Goodall ventured into the world of chimpanzees and seven years before Dian Fossey left to work with mountain gorillas – in fact\, before anyone\, man or woman had made such a trip – 23-year-old Canadian biologist\, Anne Innis Dagg\, made an unprecedented solo journey to South Africa to become the first person in the world to study animal behaviour in the wild on that continent. When she returned home a year later armed with ground-breaking research\, the insurmountable barriers she faced as a female scientist proved much harder to overcome. \nIn 1972\, having published 20 research papers as an assistant professor of zoology at University of Guelph\, the Dean of the university\, denied her tenure. She couldn’t apply to the University of Waterloo because the Dean there told Anne that he would never give tenure to a married woman. This was the catalyst that transformed Anne into a feminist activist. \nFor three decades\, Anne Innis Dagg was absent from the giraffe world until 2010 when she was sought out by giraffologists and not just brought back to into the fold\, but finally celebrated for her work. \nIn The Woman Who Loves Giraffes\, an older (now 85)\, wiser Anne takes us on her first expedition back to Africa to retrace where her trail-blazing journey began more than half a century ago. \nBy retracing her original steps\, and with letters and stunning\, original 16mm film footage\, Anne offers an intimate window into her life as a young woman\, juxtaposed with a first hand look at the devastating reality that giraffes are facing today. \nBoth the world’s first ‘giraffologist’\, whose research findings ultimately became the foundation for many scientists following in her footsteps\, and the species she loves have each experienced triumphs as well as nasty battle scars. \nThe Woman Who Loves Giraffes gives us a moving perspective on both. \nAbout Blue Mountain Watershed Trust\nAll proceeds go to the Blue Mountain Watershed Trust \nThe Blue Mountain Watershed Trust Foundation (the Watershed Trust)\, Ontario’s first watershed trust\, was formed in 1994 to protect natural areas in Collingwood and the Blue Mountains from development pressures of many kinds. Since then\, we have been instrumental in preserving and protecting our remaining wild places. \nThe Watershed Trust is an all-volunteer independent grass-roots organization supported by donations and fundraising. We have no paid employees and do not receive funding from any level of government. The Watershed Trust was incorporated in Collingwood\, Ontario 1995 and is a Registered Charity. We currently have over 170 members. \n\n\nTickets

SUMMARY:In the Name of Wild

The documentary film and interactive documentary explore wildness in UNESCO World Heritage sites in Australia\, New Zealand\, Japan\, Thailand\, Italy\, Iceland\, Canada\, Belize\, Ecuador\, and Argentina. \nThroughout ten distinct journeys the authors—a family of three—meet local residents and learn what wildness means to them. SUMMARY:Confessions of a Fairy's Daughter
DESCRIPTION:Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter\nStarring Alison Wearing \nAlison Wearing returns – by popular demand – to the Theatre Collingwood stage! \nBased on her bestselling memoir\, Confessions of a Fairy’s Daughter tells the story of a young girl growing up with a gay father in the 1980s. Woven through music and imagery\, the comic monologue moves from Alison’s carefree childhood to the moment she learned\, at age twelve\, that her family was a bit more complex than she had thought. \nThe ensuing years were a time of confusion and disbelief\, puff pastry and opera\, bathhouse raids\, scandal and celebration. Balancing intimacy\, history and humour\, this is a captivating tale of family life: deliciously imperfect\, riotously challenging\, and full of life’s great lessons in love. \nConfessions of a Fairy’s Daughter has been performed more than 150 times and has won top awards in virtually every festival in which it has appeared\, including four Fringe Festival Best of Fest awards\, the CBC’s Outstanding Solo Show award\, and Best Dramatic Script at NYC’s United Solo\, the largest festival of solo theatre in the world. \nJoin us for the triumphant return of Alison and her heartfelt\, honest\, deeply funny and personal one-woman show. You won’t want to miss this brilliant portrayal of family\, love\, and forgiveness. \n*Youth and Student Admission – $28.25*\n\nTickets

SUMMARY:The Knitting Pilgrim
DESCRIPTION:The Knitting Pilgrim\nCo-written by Kirk Dunn and Claire Ross Dunn\, Performed by Kirk Dunn \nMeet Kirk – actor\, writer\, knitter\, and PK (Preacher’s Kid). Prompted by the events of 9/11\, Kirk Dunn knit a huge triptych of tapestries\, each 2.8m tall by 1.6m wide\, designed as stained-glass windows\, exploring the commonalities and conflicts of the Abrahamic faiths. What he expected would take 10 months ended up taking him 15 years to complete! \nIn a show that is all about knitting and not about knitting at all\, Kirk looks at the rise of Islamophobia\, anti-Semitism\, and fear of ‘the other’. He delves into the fascinating story of his 15-year journey knitting the tapestries\, his artistic path of self-doubt\, financial despair\, theological questioning and the value of a loving partner who is willing to be a butt-kicking muse. \nYou’ll laugh\, cry\, and even participate in a little bit of knitting yourself as Kirk celebrates diversity\, interfaith understanding\, and the power of art to get us there. This multi-media spectacular includes one-of-a-kind fibre art woven together with modern creative tech and human performance art. This show is for knitters\, students of theology\, admirers of all types of visual\, performance\, and multi-media art\, and anyone participating in the human experience. You do NOT have to know anything about knitting to enjoy this show – but you might walk away as a converted knitter yourself! \n \n*Youth and Student Admission – $28.25*\n \n Tickets
