The Affordable Housing Task Force invites you to a film screening of Thinking Beyond the Market. Join Dr. Brian Doucet in this full length documentary film where he goes across Canada, from coast to coast, to learn about projects, policies and programs making a real difference in housing affordability. Following the screening there will be a Q&A session with Dr. Brian Doucet.

About the Film

Thinking Beyond the Market is a 98-minute documentary by University of Waterloo planning professor Dr. Brian Doucet, showcasing real-world housing solutions across Canada to address the affordability crisis. The film highlights successful policies, non-market housing initiatives, and Indigenous-led projects, demonstrating alternatives to market-driven development and promoting housing as a human right. It features interviews with a wide range of experts and advocates, offering a critical look at the root causes of the crisis and inspiring hope for transformative change.

Patron Parking

Parking at 65 Simcoe is reserved for building tenants. Simcoe Street Theatre visitors are encouraged to use street parking or nearby municipal lots (paid and free lots available on Ste. Marie and Simcoe Streets). For accessibility needs, a temporary drop-off/pickup location is provided at the rear of the building. Look for the blue space before the accessibility ramp entrance off of Ste. Marie Street. Thank you for your cooperation!
